Bahamas

The Bahamas, located in the Atlantic Ocean, southeast of Florida is an archipelago consisting of two thousand cays and seven hundred islands. Its chain of islands make this independent sovereign a very popular tourist spot with its tropical climate and spectacular beaches.

Get in:

There are several airports to serve visitors in the Bahamas which are located at the capital Nassau, on New Providence, and Freeport, on Grand Bahama. These are also considered their largest airports.

Cruise ships also frequent the Bahamas. The port of call at New Providence Island is considered as one of the busiest in the world.

Be aware that visitors are not required an advance visa for stays of up to three months. Visitors also do not need to complete the Customs form.

Get around:

You can use the local bus system otherwise known as Jitneys which are comparable to the Jeepneys of the Philippines. They are a cheap way of getting around but at the same time confusing. They are operated by different companies and have multiple routes. It's best to ask around before embarking on a trip.

Bahamasair offers local flights around most of the populated centers in the Bahamas although it can be quite expensive and the airline is also notorious for delays. Many visitors can opt for private charter planes instead.

Going around by boat or yacht can be arranged with companies like Windward Islands.

Other options are walking, biking or renting a car.
