The second and third week in September bring Expo New Mexico to downtown Albuquerque. All of the state’s best as well as an ample list of national entertainment highlight the festivities of this state’s annual fair.

Little Rock is a buzz in mid-October as the Arkansas State Fair fills barns and midway with livestock and lively folk. This fair offers an entertainment schedule that has an even sampling from pop, country, rock and jazz acts. The real shows are the 4-H competitions in which farm kids from middle school through high school aged display their animals.

This fair, set in a town that boasts of being the potato capital of the world, features horse racing with Para mutual betting.

On the state fairgrounds you’ll find the Coliseum, Trade Mart and Livestock Expo Center are the main buildings dominating the landscape. The Coliseum with its highly reflective window shines like a golden beacon on visitors looking for musical entertainment, circuses, rodeos, livestock shows and just about anything else one can think to fit in the building.

The Philadelphia Park Racetrack in Bensalem hosts the Pennsylvania State Fair every year from the end of May to the beginning of June. This state fair is relatively new and as of 2006 was only in its 21st year. Visitors to the fair each year can find lots of good deals and discounts designed to help ease the strain on your budget. There are ride discount coupons and a special free admission for one chaperone per 15 children grades K through 8. Plus the fair organizers try to include cheap one dollar menus on each concession stand.

During the first 10 days of September the small state of Vermont is aglow with the lights from its state fair in Rutland, Vermont. The admission prices to the fairgrounds are about the average price compared to that of other state fairs; maybe even a little cheaper when you include the family day, dollar day and patron appreciation day. Family day costs a little more to get in at the gate per person, but you’ll find that all the rides are included. Dollar Day is self-explanatory and Patron Appreciation Day is free, but the rides aren’t!
