The Wildwoods: An Ideal Family Vacation
 A Century of Leisure

Ever since the beginning of the 20th century, American families have taken the trek away from home to enjoy the gentle sea breeze of Wildwood, New Jersey. Many found the area to carry an invigorating, therapeutic quality, perfect for rest and relaxation. Even during those early years, the Wildwoods were poised to become a tremendously appealing vacation spot.

In the 1950s, when America cruised into a season of great prosperity, the Wildwoods were perfectly situated to serve as the vacation getaway for countless families, near and far. The Garden State Parkway, completed in 1957, poured thousands of new visitors into the streets, shops, and motels of Wildwood. Popular demand prompted the development of numerous additional accommodations, which would come to paint Wildwood, NJ with the “Doo-Wop” architecture of the 1950s. Colorful neon lights, sweeping angles, and space-age imagery all characterized these new buildings, which continue to line the streets of Wildwood to this day.

Timeless Beachside Fun

Today, the Wildwoods remain a popular location for the quintessential family vacation. Boasting well over 200 motels, Wildwood offers its visitors the kind of vacation that Americans have enjoyed for decades upon decades. The town is still decked with many of the bright colors and glowing lights that once earned it the nickname “Little Las Vegas;” the beaches still teem with the same summer fun that was there long ago. Of course, history isn’t the only thing that Wildwood has to offer.

Popular Attractions

Nestled around the 1.8 mile boardwalk are many dozens of restaurants and shops, easily explored on foot or off of the trackless “Tramcar,” which has carried beachgoers up and down the pier since the 1950s. Pizza, burgers, seafood, ice cream—all the classics and much more are available right there on the dock.

Also right along the shore is a collection of amusement and water parks, ready for easy access and instant excitement. Wildwood offers not one, but several amusement and water parks, many of which have been recognized with statewide awards for excellence in entertainment. Visitors can experience the thrill of roller coasters, free-falls, waterslides, and more without ever leaving the salty ocean air.

For visitor accommodations, Wildwood offers a vast selection of lodging, available for all varieties of preference and budget. Such accessibility is the benefit of vacationing in a town that was built on the summer fun of countless visiting families in years past. Options abound for arranging the ideal family getaway. After nearly 100 years of learning what visitors want, the Wildwoods are a perfect location to host the ideal family vacation.
