London, the capital of England is notorious for its rainy and gloomy weather but in the summer months from June until the end of August, the weather in London can be quite glorious and this makes people want to celebrate the good weather. A number of music festivals are held throughout the capital during the months of June, July and August which give the British public and the many tourists that flock to London in the summer a chance to enjoy the sunshine and the balmy long summer nights. Big Dance 2008
Big Dance 2008 returns to London this year after two years and is a week long celebration of dance in all styles and forms. Big Dance is to be held at various venues in London including cinemas, clubs and streets in order to showcase the multicultural fabric of the U.K.'s capital city through diversity in the styles of dance. The week of dance will include classes, workshops, performances and exhibitions which will highlight diverse and unique dance styles like ballet, hip hop and world dance. This dance festival which encourages people to express themselves through dance will culminate in a massive choreographed dance which will take place in the heart of London at Trafalgar Square on the 12th of July. This final performance will involve 2008 dancers to highlight the fact that it is Big Dance 2008. The performance is open to the public who can sign up at the website of the festival. When you sign up on the website you will be allocated a color which will be red, blue or yellow and this will be the zone where you will dance on the day. The allocated color is also the color of the dance that you will have to learn and the color that you will need to wear on the day. This mega dance event is being choreographed by award winning choreographer Aletta Collins.
iTunes Live London Festival 2008
The first iTunes Live from London Festival was held with much success in 2005 and this year Apple Inc has organized a festival which will feature sixty bands which will represent various musical styles. The festival will be held on all days in the month of July.Acts like James Blunt, N*E*R*D, Suzanne Vega, Chaka Khan are all scheduled to appear at the festival which will be held at London's KOKO club which has been recently refurbished and is the brand new avatar of a club called Camden Place. Tickets for all the shows are free but in order to gain admission to the gig that you want to see you have to win the tickets from the website of the festival. Rise London
Rise is Europe's largest free anti racist festival which is held in London's Finsbury Park. This year, the festival is scheduled to be held on Sunday the 13th of July and will feature eclectic performances from various acts. The performances will display a mix of indie, hip-hop, soul ,rock and world music styles. The festival will also feature comedy, exhibitions and performances by the city's top DJs. BBC Proms
BBC Proms, the world greatest classical musical festival will be held at various venues including the Royal Albert Hall from the 13th of July to the 18th of September 2008. This annual festival is celebrating its 114th anniversary this year. The word Prom refers to a Promenade concert where the audience enjoys the music while standing in the "promenade" area of the hall. This annual festival features approximately seventy Prom Concerts.
